Betty Betz Items

They were made by Merediths in Evanston, around 1958. The colorful artwork was embossed instead of silk screened and was on flat vinyl which was different from the puffy surface of the Levine designs. They were sometimes advertised in the late 1950s in Family Circle Magazine.These items are hard to find.

The items shown in the photograph are;
Betty Betz Letter Box, Letter Holder, Pencil Holder, Scrapbook, and Jewelry Box.

These were made during the late 1950s into early 1960s by the Debway Corporation of New York City. They were silk screened in five colors, usually on light blue or white. The designs are very whimsical. They were featured in the Sears Christmas Books in the 1959 and 1961 editions.

The items shown in the photograph are;
Bobby Soxer Jewelry Box, Lunch Box, and Scrapbook.

Levine worked with Hasbro during the 1950s, too. He designed similar young bobby soxer items for their off shoot Teen-Time. The designs were almost the same layout but with different hairdos or for example the girl might be sitting in the opposite direction. They came in the same colors and had only four silk screened shades,too. I have never seen an aqua dateline or deb-u-teen item however.

  • The garbage can in the above photo is a rare item.
  • Dateline items in the photo at the left are:
    Photobook, Dictionaries, Photo Frame, Stamp and Note Card Holder
  • Deb-U-Teen items in the photo at the right are:
